Manchester United Football Club made a bold statement when they signed Zlatan Ibrahimovic on a free transfer last summer, with Jose Mourinho going for the tried and tested – rather than putting his faith in youth. One man who has suffered because of Ibra coming in is Marcus Rashford.
The young man from Wythenshawe burst onto the scene under Louis van Gaal last campaign, and really spearheaded Manchester United’s attack from February onwards. However, this year Marcus Rashford has been stuck out on the wing – or has had to settle for minutes from off of the bench.
Now rather worrying reports are coming out from The Times, who say that the 19-year-old striker is stalling on a new contract at the Theatre of Dreams, and will consider his future at the end of the current campaign. The report says that Rashford is frustrated at his lack of game time, and doubts that he’ll ever be given a proper run in the side by Jose Mourinho.
The Times do add that the young man doesn’t want to leave Manchester United, but he does feel things have gone backwards for himself – which you’d certainly say is a fair comment.
Right now, I believe it’s up to Rashford to keep positive because he will get a chance. Let’s not forget that he is still very young and developing as a player. He cannot expect to be starting week-in-week-out, that’s just not physically possible at a club like Manchester United.
