Spanish giants Atletico Madrid are ready to auction off their world-class attacker, Antoine Griezmann, according to the Daily Mirror. On top of that, the article states that Manchester United are leading the race to acquire the 26-year-old – and what a transfer statement this would be if Jose Mourinho could pull it off.
Apparently, Griezmann has an £89million release clause in his current contract, which has obviously led to significant interest in such a gifted player – particularly as it seems to me as though he is intent on leaving Atleti as soon as possible.
As for United’s interest, we all know that the Red Devils tried to sign Griezmann to no avail over the summer, and it certainly makes sense to go back in for the attacker as soon as possible. Will a move happen in January? Probably not because he’d be cup-tied for the Champions League, so in my opinion, a summer move would be much more likely.
Mourinho has been crying out for that one attacker who can carve an opening out of nothing, and, outside of Paul Pogba, we’ve looked toothless at times. Griezmann would go an awfully long way towards solving those problems, but I’d expect that more clubs will show their interest in him soon.
