Manchester United need a big summer transfer window. That much is obvious.
Whoever the next permanent manager may be must have money to spend if they’re to push the Red Devils right to the top of the footballing pyramid.
The rumours are already swirling, and the latest comes from the Daily Mirror. They say that United are in the market to sign Toby Alderweireld from Tottenham Hotspur – with the Londoners resigned to losing the centre-half for just £26million.
That’s because Alderweireld has a release clause in his contract that activates this coming summer, although United will face stern competition to sign the 30-year-old; with Juventus and FC Barcelona also keen. Right now though, it’s the Manchester club at the front of the queue.
To me, there is absolutely no doubt that Alderweireld would be a brilliant acquisition. This defence needs a leader and Alderweireld would instantly be that as soon as he walks through the door.
At such a bargain price, for a proven player, this honestly seems like a no-brainer. Hopefully, Edward Woodward is already pushing this deal forward in the hope that United can get it done as soon as physically is possible.
