Manchester United have been linked with moves to sign a new left-back this summer. Now, another new name has been thrown into the mix.
This time it’s the excellent Jose Luis Gaya of Valencia CF. The Daily Mirror, per The Metro, are stating that Juventus are playing hard-ball in regards to letting Alex Sandro move to Old Trafford; so Jose Mourinho is turning his attentions elsewhere.
Gaya, who is only 23, only signed a new deal with the La Liga club just last month, and the left-back has been with Valencia since the age of 11. Obviously, getting him to part ways with them won’t be easy. However, his hand may be forced if United meet Valencia’s £30million valuation; which isn’t too expensive in the modern market.
I love Sandro, and I think he would have been a wonderful signing. However, that move now looks dead in the water. In terms of alternatives, Gaya would be perfect.
The Spaniard is the complete, modern-day full-back who’s excellent on both sides of the ball. At 23, he’s only going to get better. Sign him, and United could well have a player they can rely on for the best part of a decade. Ashley Young has done a solid job, but I finally think it’s time to bring in a natural left-sided defender, because at times last season, our full-back play was certainly holding us back.
