Manchester United are locked in a battle to sign the SL Benfica ace, Umaro Embalo, according to German media outlet Bild, translated by the Manchester Evening News.
The report says that United have been weighing up a move for the 16-year-old for quite some time, however, now they’ll face competition from FC Barcelona, Real Madrid and RB Leipzig; with the German side now the front-runners.
Although the forward is yet to make a senior appearance for the Portuguese giants, Embalo is making a name for himself at youth level, and he did impress in a game against a Manchester United youth side earlier on in the season.
Apparently, Benfica are chasing around £16million to let Embalo go, which tells you everything you need to know about just how immensely talented he is.
However, I just don’t see United taking that risk at this point in time. They’re pretty well stocked in the striker position at the moment, and when you’re buying a teenager who is yet to fully develop, it’s always a gamble.
Personally, I’d like to see him get at least a couple of years playing in the Primeira Liga before United even consider making a move for him, and I’d be surprised if this deal happens.
