Since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took charge at Manchester United, the Red Devils are slowly but surely getting back to their roots.

Sign young players, nurture and develop their talents and then unleash the shackles in the first-team. Credit to the Baby Faced Assassin, who pulled off an excellent bit of business when signing Daniel James last term.

Now, it seems as though Solskjaer is trying to make lightning strike twice by eyeing up another young Championship up-and-comer. This time around it’s Birmingham City’s Jude Bellingham.

The story comes in the form of an exclusive from the Daily Mirror, who state that United have made an offer totalling over £12.5m to sign the striker, while United are at the forefront of the transfer race for Bellingham; who has attracted attention from the biggest clubs in Europe.

This isn’t the first time United have been linked with Bellingham. Just before the turn of the year, we covered a story from The Sun, who reported that the Reds were ‘tracking’ the mega-talented 16-year-old.

It’s crazy to think that a man who doesn’t turn 17 until June already has close to 25 first-team league appearances under his belt – and the talent is obviously there.

This does seem like a typical United transfer, though us fans would have to be patient with Bellingham. He’s not someone who you’d expect 20+ goals-a-season from as soon as he walks into the entrance door. Heck, it’d probably be a season or two before we see him in the first-team regularly should the transfer happen.

Either way, it’s a transfer risk well worth taking, though I’d doubt Birmingham will be keen to lose Bellingham in January…
