Sky Sports reporter: Man United make £40m bid to sign powerhouse midfielder this summer

Manchester United Football Club have tabled a £40million move to bring in Eric Dier, according to Sky Sports presenter Jim White. So far, the Red Devils have made two major signings but it seems to me that manager Jose Mourinho still thinks there is work to be done.

At times last season, we looked exposed in that holding midfield role, particularly when Michael Carrick was being rested. We’re craving that defensive-minded midfielder who enjoys doing the dirty work.

The 23-year-old would bring that to the table in abundance, and it’d give extra freedom to the likes of Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba – both of whom do their best work in the final third of the pitch.

Being English, and knowing the Premier League well, it’d mean that Dier would be able to fit seamlessly into the squad from day one. At first, this sounded like an underwhelming signing to me, but when you think about it, bringing him in would make an awful lot of sense.

My only concern would be trying to negotiate with Tottenham Hotspur and Daniel Levy. There is absolutely no way they would let him leave on the cheap, and we’d be charged an absolute arm and a leg. Probably even more so when you factor in that they’ve already lost Kyle Walker this season, and they wouldn’t want to lose two key players in the same window.
