Manchester United need to bring in at least one midfielder during this window. If I’m being picky, I’d like to see two new faces added.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer lost Marouane Fellaini in January while Ander Herrera walked away for free during this summer window.
Today, a new name has been thrown into the mix; Youri Tielemans.
The 22-year-old spent the second-half of the 2018/19 campaign on loan with Leicester City – putting in some mightily impressive performances in the process.
Now, according to the usually reliable Belgian journalist Kristof Terreur, United have been ‘in touch’ over Tielemans recently.
Apparently, Solskjaer ‘likes’ the Belgian international while the club have been in talks with the 22-year-old’s agent. Tielemans will not be returning back to parent club AS Monaco this summer, while Leicester City are also trying to convince the midfielder to sign for them on a permanent basis.
For me, Tielemans is a huge upgrade on Ander Herrera. I see the Belgian as a more well-rounded version of the Basque – and the fact that Spurs have ‘other priorities’ should mean United have a relatively clear path to go out and get the youngster.
Although no transfer fee is mentioned by Terreur, the Leicester Mercury state that Monaco are likely to double the £20million that they paid to sign Tielemans – so around £40million should get the deal done.
In this day and age, for a player who could potentially give you a decade of service, this seems like an absolute bargain. Even United can’t mess this one up, right? Now it’s down to Solskjaer to decide whether he wants Tielemans enough to make an official bid.
