Yesterday evening, we covered a story from Goal Mexico in which it was claimed that Manchester United had made Wolves striker Raul Jimenez a target.
Well, it seems as though that transfer is progressing pretty quickly, as according to Goal’s UK branch, United have now enquired about signing two Wolves players as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to bolster his squad in January; Jimenez and Ruben Neves.
Goal ‘has learned’ that the Red Devils have moved to open talks regarding transfers for both players, with the Baby Faced Assassin keen to add some quality to a squad that has been inconsistent all season.
Following the departures of Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez in the summer, the decision to replace neither of them always looked a naive one. Now we’re in a January transfer window which it is notoriously difficult to buy players in.
Jimenez would be a stunning signing if United could somehow pull it off. The Mexican would give us a different dimension and we’d finally have some height in the box for all those quality lofted balls that Daniel James puts into the area.
As for Neves, it can be argued he’s an even bigger need. Aged just 22, this boy has the potential to be our centre-midfielder for the best part of a decade. Again, though, Wolves aren’t going to let him go easily (or cheaply).
Signing both of these guys in one summer window is nigh-on impossible as Wolves aren’t going to part with two prized assets to one club. Trying it in January is borderline insanity. For us here at Old Trafford Faithful, if we had to pick one to sign in summer, we’d go for Neves.
