Man United move for Mario Mandzukic looking increasingly likely: report

Manchester United and Juventus have apparently been in talks regarding an incredible swap deal involving Romelu Lukaku and Paulo Dybala.

Well today, a new name has been thrown into the ring. It comes from Italian journalist Giovanni Albanese, who claims that actually, a move for Juventus’ 33-year-old forward, Mario Mandzukic, is looking increasingly likely.

Albanese doesn’t make it clear whether the Croatia international is directly involved in the Dybala-Lukaku swap deal, or it’s a separate transfer altogether. He does state that there is a ‘caution’ due to the ongoing negotiations surrounding the pair, though, before adding there’s a ‘positive feeling’ about Mandzukic.

Perhaps a year or two ago I would have loved United to sign Mandzukic. He is the perfect player in a Jose Mourinho system. The attacker is versatile, an incredibly hard-worker and a big-game player who knows where the back of the net is.

In this Ole Gunnar Solskjaer system, I have doubts. Plus at 33 he’s not getting any younger…

My hunch is that United’s primary option is Dybala, but if the Argentine doesn’t want to move then the Reds would accept a hefty sum of cash plus Mandzukic to off-set some of the Lukaku costs. That would be rather underwhelming, mind…
