Earlier today, we covered a story from Sky Sports News, claiming Inter Milan were interested in signing Romelu Lukaku from Manchester United this summer.
Shortly after Sky’s story broke, Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri offered us another update. He is claiming that United have now received an offer from Inter for Lukaku – although it’s not straight-up cash.
Palmeri says United have been offered £26.5m plus Ivan Perisic for the Belgium international – totalling a combined valuation of £57.2million…
When you consider that United signed Lukaku two years ago for £75million, with the striker scoring 42 goals in two seasons, I highly doubt the Reds are ready to take a £20million-hit on their #9.
With that said, I also get the feeling that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer isn’t fully convinced by Lukaku’s fit to the style the Baby Faced Assassin wants to play.
I find Perisic’s inclusion in the deal interesting, too. The Croat has been pursued by United in the past, when Jose Mourinho was in charge. However, he’s coming into the summer on the back of a poor, injury-hit season. He’s now 30 and again, I struggle to believe if Solskjaer can get the most out of him.
It would be typical Edward Woodward to sign a player who’s absolutely perfect for another player he’s about to sell within the same deal, but at this point, I just don’t see United accepting this in a hurry…
