Manchester United Football Club has apparently opened contract talks with Phil Jones, according to ESPN FC.
The 25-year-old has emerged as a vital cog in Jose Mourinho’s system, with the Englishman conceding just two Premier League goals in eight outings thus far.
Seriously, Jones deserves all the credit coming his way right now. He’s battled hard, overcoming injury after injury, to force his way into the first-team on a regular basis. Right now, he and Manchester United are reaping the rewards.
Jones’ current contract ends in 2019, but according to the aforementioned report, the club want to hand him a new long-term contract, and it makes perfect sense.
He’s becoming that reliable centre-half that we once thought he would be. Hopefully, the injuries are behind him and Jones can kick-on from here. This is a man who’s still relatively young at just 25, and he has the potential to be playing for this club for at least the next five years.
Although talks are at an early stage, both parties are confident an agreement will be reached. Hopefully, he’ll sign on the dotted line soon, allowing him to concentrate solely on his football.
