Man United optimistic of keeping Paul Pogba beyond the summer: report

Manchester United Football Club have themselves a Paul Pogba dilemma.

The midfield maestro has barely played this term – which comes after Pogba admitted he was seeking a new challenge. To me, that sounds a little fishy but I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt, particularly if he comes back and puts in some quality performances before the season ends.

As you’d expect, all the talk since has been about Pogba wanting to depart from Old Trafford this coming summer. However, ESPN‘s take is rather different.

They write that United are optimistic the 27-year-old will stay at the club beyond this summer, where there is doubt about whether any side would be able to afford the superstar Frenchman.

Pogba’s deal does expire in the summer of 2021, though the Reds also have the option to trigger a contract extension giving United a further twelve months.

In effect, United have two years to either get Pogba to commit, or move him on. Realistically, if he doesn’t sign, the midfielder’s value will be at it’s highest when this summer transfer window (eventually) opens – leaving the club with a decision to make.

The last thing United want is to lose Pogba for nothing. This is a highly-marketable individual who, on his day, can compete with the best. Sure, everyone would like to see him stay and play with Bruno Fernandes. Who knows, recent performances from the Portuguese may have led to Pogba having second thoughts about leaving for pastures new…
