Manchester United are planning one final attempt to acquire the signature of Tottenham’s Eric Dier, according to the Daily Mirror. The Red Devils are apparently ready to make one final ‘take it or leave it offer’ for the Englishman, worth around £60million.
However, Jose Mourinho and the Manchester club fear that Tottenham will remain firm and reject the offer, as they look to keep hold of one of their key players.
It comes as no real secret that United are chasing a new, defensive-minded midfielder this season. Another couple of names that have been heavily linked with a move to the Theatre of Dreams are Nemanja Matic and Fabinho – although obviously, we haven’t signed anyone yet.
According to The Mirror, Dier is keen on a move up North, despite only putting pen to paper on a new long-term contract at Spurs recently. However, their chairman Daniel Levy isn’t willing to lose him, particularly after Manchester City completed a move to sign Kyle Walker this summer.
I like Dier, don’t get me wrong here, but I think he’d be an underwhelming signing. He’s a useful player, but not much more than that. A club with Manchester United’s stature should be setting their sights much higher than average – especially for the amount of money that’s mentioned.
