Manchester United could be about to renew their interest in Tottenham Hotspur’s Eric Dier, according to the usually reliable Guardian newspaper. The 23-year-old could well be subject to a £50million bid after Jose Mourinho’s move for Nemanja Matic now looks unlikely.
That’s because the Stamford Bridge club are now apparently unwilling to deal with the Red Devils, if Romelu Lukaku makes the move to the Theatre of Dreams, as the blues were reportedly interested in signing the Belgian too.
Matic, who was heavily linked with a reunion with Mourinho at United seems to have gone rather stagnant over the last week or so, and this could well be the reason why.
It seems a bit sour grapes from the London club, but you can hardly blame them as we’ve just stole our number one transfer target from right under their noses.
However, I’d be disappointed if Dier was the man to come in. He’s a decent player, but that is not enough. We need a player in the upper echelons of the footballing world who can come in and make a real difference from the get-go.
On top of that, I can hardly see Spurs selling one of their key players to a fellow club who’ll be challenging for the title next year. It just wouldn’t make good business sense on their part.
