Man United preparing to launch bid for centre-half after World Cup exit: report

Manchester United are preparing to make a stunning move for Belgium international centre-back, Toby Alderweireld.

That’s according to the Daily Express, who say that the Red Devils are going to make their bid now that the other Red Devils are out of the World Cup.

The 29-year-old will now return to Tottenham Hotspur, where he has had an unhappy few months after being dropped from the team. With one year left on his deal, this could well be their last opportunity to get some sort of transfer fee for him.

In terms of fit for Manchester United, this would be perfect. Alderweireld is experienced and he also knows the Premier League inside-out, after spending a few years in the country.

He’s tall, physical and a front-footed defender, and alongside Eric Bailly, it certainly looks like a partnership that could work wonders; on paper at least.

My only concern is negotiating with Spurs is never easy. Daniel Levy will eek every last penny out of Edward Woodward, and this saga may drag on for a while yet. Don’t forget, the deadline is earlier than ever this year, as the English transfer window closes before the season starts on August 10th.
