After sealing a deal for Harry Maguire just yesterday, it seems as though Manchester United aren’t done quite yet…
The story comes from ESPN, who state that United are pursuing a deal to sign the 27-year-old attacking midfielder, Christian Eriksen, before Thursday’s rapidly-approaching transfer deadline.
What’s interesting is this backs up a claim we covered earlier from the Daily Mail, which leads me to believe there could well be some truth to these rumours.
Anyway, back to the ESPN report… While United are indeed interested, there’s also an acceptance that it will be difficult to seal this deal before the deadline which is now roughly around 48 hours away. Things would have to move quickly.
Spurs also have a keenness to sell. Daniel Levy is reluctant to let a prized asset walk away for nothing next year, though the problem for United is that foreign clubs can still buy from English sides beyond Thursday’s deadline as England’s transfer window is the first one to close.
We tend to forget that both Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini are yet to be replaced. Although Eriksen is a different player to them both, there’s no doubt he’d improve United’s starting line-up massively should the deal go through.
In terms of fee, Spurs wanted £130m at the start of the window, though in the absence of a formal bid (so far anyway), Levy would be willing to ‘accept a compromise’.
I’d love to see this happen but with time winding down pretty quickly I have my doubts…
