Man United quartet named in BBC’s Team of the Week after massive derby day win

Ah, it has been a while since us Manchester United fans have had such a positive few days. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has beaten both Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola during the Red Devils’ last two outings – and the best part about it was that both were deserved victories.

The victories have lifted the Old Trafford club into fifth place in the Premier League table, with the top four now in sight. It’s about carrying that moment forward and building on what we’ve achieved.

Before then, though, it’s nice to see some United players rightfully being praised for their quality individual outings. In Garth Crooks’ BBC Team of the Week, a key Reds quartet has been named following their top displays vs City:

Let’s start with David de Gea. Now I’ve certainly seen the Spaniard busier in games since he moved to Manchester, though he did make a couple of smart saves to deny both Rodri and Riyad Mahrez.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka was also included in the team – and rightly so. He kept Raheem Sterling relatively quiet due to his brilliance in the tackle. What a signing the Englishman is proving to be and the good news is, he’s only going to improve.

Next up we have Victor Lindelof. The Swede made one big error that almost cost us a goal, but my, he was outstanding. The block he made to deny Kevin de Bruyne was just insane, while his passing out from the back deserves credit.

Last but not least is Marcus Rashford. It was his goal from the spot (a penalty in which he won), got United on their way. His hunger, desire and willingness to win definitely helped get the Reds over the line.

I can also make a case for both Fred and Scott McTominay to be included, though the midfield area does look pretty stacked by James Maddison and Jordan Henderson…
