Manchester United Football Club are ready to battle Arsenal to try and sign AS Monaco star Thomas Lemar, reports The Mirror, as per ESPN. The article states that Jose Mourinho is ready to bid a club record amount to try and persuade the Frenchman to join the Old Trafford club – as early as January.
The Gunners very nearly sealed a deal to sign Lemar on transfer deadline day but the deal eventually fell through – and obviously, he’ll remain an AS Monaco player until January at the very least.
It took a bid of £92million for Monaco to be persuaded into parting with the 21-year-old, which would become a new Red Devils record if the deal were to happen – beating Paul Pogba’s £89million move back to the Theatre of Dreams just over twelve months ago.
Personally, I’m a huge admirer of Lemar’s and signing the left-winger would be a fantastic bit of business. However, I just cannot help but think there are still more pressing matters that need to be addressed first. The left-back situation is a real issue, and when the likes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial are playing so well, I’d prefer the left-wingback position to be sorted as quickly as possible.
