Man United reignite interest in Alex Sandro: report

Man United and Alex Sandro rumours seem to pop up every other summer. This time around, it’s no different.

This time around, the story comes from both Calciomercato and yesterday’s print edition of Corriere dello Sport. Apparently, United have reignited their interest in the 29-year-old full-back.

CdS then piggyback off Calciomercato’s report, stating that Juventus will listen to offers above £36m (€40m) to let the Brazilian leave. Sandro currently has three years left on his deal with the Turin-based outfit.

With a few seasons left under contract, Juventus are under absolutely no pressure to sell. However, there’s a hint that they’re seemingly looking to move in a different direction if they’re willing to let Sandro leave.

Left-back is an intriguing position for United. At this time, Luke Shaw and Brandon Williams are sharing the role pretty well. However, neither are top-class and both could be replaced if the right signing is made.

The question is this, is Sandro that replacement?

On paper, Sandro is more than good enough. However, he doesn’t really fit the player profile that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has shown an obvious preference towards; young and British.

At most, you’d get two, maybe three top-quality seasons out of Sandro, assuming he can adapt to the English game. It’d probably mean one of Shaw or Williams would have to depart, unless Solskjaer sees Williams’ future over on the right.

In the current market, £36m seems fair for a player of Sandro’s calibre. However, at this point, United should invest that elsewhere. I’m looking at central defence, midfield and out wide – all of those positions need more depth.

For the time being, I would imagine that United won’t back up their interest in Sandro with an official bid unless Juventus drastically lower their asking price. That’s not to say he isn’t a good player, but right now, a move doesn’t feel right.
