Man United need a winger before the transfer window shuts on October 5th, enter, Ivan Perisic.
United have been linked with Perisic before. Multiple times, in fact. However, as of right now, the Croatia international is still without a club for the 2020/21 term.
Apparently, Paris Saint-Germain have asked about loaning the player from Inter Milan, with Leonardo asking personally for Perisic.
But where do United come into it?
Well, according to the story, the Reds remain the ‘hottest option’ for the veteran attacker. Furthermore, it’s claimed that talks with United have been ongoing for ‘weeks’.
The story dismiss a potential return to the Bundesliga for Perisic, leaving United and PSG as the apparent front-runners for the now 31-year-old.
Where would Perisic fit in?
Well, we’re talking about someone who is brilliantly two-footed. Perisic can play off either flank, or centrally if that’s where Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would see his future.
His best position is off the left-hand side, meaning he could deputise for Marcus Rashford. However, if Perisic was acquired from Inter this summer, you’d imagine his immediate future would lie on the right-wing.
Mason Greenwood is still developing and he’ll still display those inconsistencies of youth. Perisic is a seasoned veteran whose experience could be key. Not to mention both Greenwood and Rashford would learn plenty from the World Cup final goal-scorer.
My only concern is that this isn’t the sort of player Solskjaer has typically moved for. Usually, he likes to add younger players, who’ll develop and grow into their roles at the club.
From the outside looking in, a move for Perisic would seem like a panic-buy, a stop-gap of sorts. We all know Jadon Sancho is the one United really want, but that doesn’t look possible at this point in time.
