Manchester United have been quite heavily linked with a move to sign AS Monaco’s Fabinho recently, with several reports saying a move is close. The 23-year-old Brazilian was one of the stars of a stunning campaign for the Ligue 1 club, who scooped their first top-flight title in years.
The versatile midfielder, who can also play as a right-back, made 50 appearances across all competitions for Monaco, scoring an impressive 11 goals over the last twelve months.
Now Fabinho has finally spoken out about the possibility of a potential transfer to the Theatre of Dreams, whilst admitting that it would be a ‘tempting’ offer.
“The offer would be tempting, first I would talk with my agents/representatives and with Monaco to make sure the right decision is made.” Fabinho told Esporte Interativo, as per the Daily Express.
“But it’s a great team and I would definitely think hard about the offer.”
In my opinion, Jose Mourinho simply has to get this deal done. It seems to me that the player would be all for a move to Old Trafford if United and Monaco could agree on some sort of transfer fee – and he’s a player that makes a whole lot of sense.
United have lacked that mobility in the middle of the park, and it has cost them at times – particularly when defending. As good as Michael Carrick is, he lacks that movement and once an opposing player has gone past the veteran, the 35-year-old struggles to keep up.
That’s where Fabinho would slot in wonderfully. Not only would he give us an added dimension going forward, he’d also make us much more solid defensively; which is likely the primary reason as to why United are interested.
