Man United scouting Brighton defender Ben White: report

Over the summer, Manchester United significantly bolstered their defence by signing both Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

However, there are still some glaring holes across the back line. Phil Jones remains nowhere near good enough, Eric Bailly is constantly injured and Ashley Young is ageing. More reinforcements are needed.

Well today, a report from The Athletic (subscription required), states that United are scouting 22-year-old English defender, Ben White. However, the Red Devils will face stiff competition to sign the man from Poole as Liverpool have shown a ‘genuine interest’ in the Brighton & Hove Albion man.

Right now, White is plying his trade on loan for Leeds United in the Championship, where he’s impressing by all accounts. No doubt Brighton were hoping that White will return next summer and cement his place within the first-team squad at the Amex.

Instead, The Seagulls could be looking at a big payday. Although the money is nice, there’s no Premier League club who are short on cash these days so no doubt they’ll be bitterly disappointed.

This isn’t the first time United have been linked with White, either. Just under two weeks ago, we covered a story from Football Insider that claimed the Old Trafford club were monitoring White, and his current Leeds teammate, Kalvin Phillips.
