Earlier today, we covered a story from Sky Sports in which it was claimed that Manchester United had made a ‘significant bid’ for Crystal Palace right-back, Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Well on Sunday afternoon we were given more details in the story. Again, it’s from Sky Sports, who this time say that the bid from the 20-times Premier League champions was £40million. Needless to say, that was rejected immediately.
Apparently, Palace want ‘at least’ £60million to let the 21-year-old right-back leave Selhurst Park this summer, with the player having three years left on his contract.
The Red Devils are looking to replace the departing Antonio Valencia, who left on a free transfer this summer.
Wan-Bissaka enjoyed a brilliant breakthrough season with Palace this year, and I actually found him very unfortunate to not get a full England call-up for the UEFA Nations League.
It goes without saying that the Englishman would be a huge upgrade on Ashley Young in the right-back position – largely due to Wan-Bissaka’s sheer excellence in defence.
If there’s one area in Wan-Bissaka’s game that United would be looking to develop, it’s what he offers in an offensive capacity. The final ball is sometimes lacking, but in terms of defensive solidity, he’s just superb and that alone would make him worth the £60million fee.
