Man United set contract deadline date for David de Gea: report

Manchester United’s season is ending with a whimper. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men has two games remaining, the Red Devils will be hoping to win both.

Despite recent struggles it looks as though the Spaniard David de Gea will keep his place in between the sticks in both matches – although his long-term future is far from secure.

According to The Sun, United have told the 28-year-old that he has just a week (until the end of the season) to sign a new £350,000-a-week contract – as United want an answer before this campaign is over.

You have to understand that football is now more a business than ever. If De Gea doesn’t put pen to paper than this is the last viable opportunity that United have to sell De Gea for an actual transfer fee rather than losing him on a free transfer.

It’s a tricky situation for United. De Gea has been a magnificent servant for this club and we’re lucky to have him, but Real Madrid have always been sniffing around his signature – and a bad month certainly won’t detract any other potential suitors.

I just hope that he puts pen to paper, you can’t deny the fact that replacing him would be a huge issue for Solskjaer going into the summer, but we’ll just have to wait and see what happens as I think he’ll be leaving.
