Manchester United are set to hand David de Gea a new long-term contract to ward off interest from Real Madrid, reports The Independent. The Spaniard, who’s contract expires in 2019, is expected to sign the new deal that is going to be put on the table.
The 26-year-old is one of our few world-class players within the current squad in my opinion, and at times, he can win this club points single-handedly.
To United’s credit, they haven’t buckled under some pretty intense pressure from Madrid who are one of the biggest club’s in the world. Now, Jose Mourinho is clearly trying to intensify the Red Devils’ grip on De Gea; and it makes perfect sense.
De Gea has remained the consummate professional throughout the years of gossip surrounding his future, and that’s a testament to his character. In the modern age, he could have quite easily kicked up a fuss about the fact that he hasn’t been granted a move back to Spain – but all he’s done is continued to work hard.
He seems to love this great club, despite probably wanting to move to Real Madrid over the years. We’re grateful for his brilliant service and long may it continue.
