Man United set to announce third summer signing this week as Mourinho continues to build: report

Manchester United Football Club are set to announce their third signing of the summer, with Lee Grant of Stoke City to join the club.

That’s according to the excellent Craig Norwood, who was first to break the news regarding both the Fred and Diogo Dalot transfers.

Grant, 35, will be coming to the club as the third-choice goalkeeper, behind both Sergio Romero and David de Gea. The veteran is free to leave Stoke City following their relegation, with the Red Devils picking up the veteran.

Obviously, he’s coming in as nothing more than a back-up, but having his experience in and around the squad can only be a good thing. We’re talking about a senior player who’s been in the game for years, and if he can use all that veteran-presence that’ll rub off on the rest of the goalkeepers, then I’m absolutely fine with the signing.

Sure, he’s only likely to play a handful of games every season (barring injury disaster), but it’s nice to see Jose Mourinho pushing on with transfers and making sure he has enough cover in various positions.

To me, this now means that young Joel Pereira is set to head out on loan for a season, which is only a good thing for his development.
