Yesterday, we covered a story From Correio da Manha, who stated that Bruno Fernandes was due in Manchester ‘next week’ after significant progress was made in his deal…
By now, we should all know how sensationalist the Portuguese press have been when covering these Fernandes to United rumours since last summer. However, the English media are now getting themselves in amongst it.
Last night, The Mirror ran a story on their website, claiming that United are ‘set to bid’ £65m for the 25-year-old this week as the Reds look to bolster their midfield following injuries to both Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba.
Apparently, the 20-time Premier League champions failed with a player-plus-cash offer, with Marcos Rojo and either Angel Gomes/Joel Pereira heading the other way.
If United want to sign him this month, they’d have to pay £50m cash upfront, with a deal totalling £65m after add-ons.
The Mirror state that talks between United and Sporting will continue, with the Reds remaining hopeful that a deal can be done this month.
It’s worth noting that Fernandes scored twice over the weekend and he certainly didn’t look like a man who was about to leave his current club.
Honestly, us here at Old Trafford Faithful are struggling to work out the truth in this one, though as of right now, we wouldn’t hold our breath in regards to this deal going through…
