Man United set to make Dayot Upamecano move next summer: report

Man United have seemingly identified RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano as a transfer target.

The news comes on the same day that Manchester United will go head-to-head with Upamecano’s RB Leipzig in the Champions League.

It’s The Times who ran the story, claiming that United are set to make their move for the talented 22-year-old next summer.

Apparently, United considered an approach for Upamecano this summer, who is regarded as one of the most talented centre-halves in Europe. However, the defender signed a new three-year contract, removing a £45million release clause…

This isn’t all bad news, though. As removing that clause did ensure Leipzig would keep ahold of their star man for another season. However, his new deal has a catch which means the Frenchman could be available for just £38million.

A release clause with that fee comes into effect next summer, meaning United, and undoubtedly a whole host of other top sides, will be interested.

Who is Man United target Dayot Upamecano?

The young man is regarded as the next big thing in world football. He’s also been linked with a move to Old Trafford before. RB Leipzig have given Upamecano the platform to grow and develop as a player at his own pace.

However, the German outfit can only take him so far. In a one-off game, Leipzig can beat anyone, though competing over the course of a long season and coming out on top is still a tough ask.

Upamecano, like Timo Werner, will be looking to move on sooner rather than later. Where better to hone your talents than in the Premier League? At a club like United who can help him continue to improve.

Centre-half is still a weakness at United, while Upamecano could well be the perfect partner for Harry Maguire. At such a cheap price, this one seems like a no-brainer.
