Manchester United had to dish out a colossal £17,000-a-week to keep Angel Gomes at Old Trafford, that’s what The Sun says in an exclusive.
It was thought that the 17-year-old’s Red Devils future was in major doubt, as interest from both Borussia Dortmund and FC Barcelona loomed, but eventually, the young Mancunian put pen to paper on his first professional contract at the Theatre of Dreams – but it came at a hefty price.
The report says that the £17,000-weekly wage is before any bonuses and add-ons, and Gomes has the potential to be taking home £25,000-a-week if he continues to progress throughout the duration of the deal.
I guess this tells you everything you need to know about Gomes’ potential and just how much Manchester United value him.
At 17, he’s still young and learning the game, but with the way things are going in the Premier League, it’d make sense to give him some more first-team opportunities towards the end of the season.
When he came on as a late substitute against Crystal Palace last season, it felt like the first of many appearances for the starlet, and I genuinely cannot wait until he makes a proper breakthrough into the Manchester United squad.
