Man United standing firm, refusing to bow to midfielder’s wage demands: report

Manchester United’s Ander Herrera is out of contract this summer. It always felt like a renewal for the Basque-born midfielder was fairly straightforward. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case.

The club and the 29-year-old have seemingly come to a halt in discussions, with Herrera now free to talk to overseas clubs about signing a pre-agreement.

Now we may know why, as the Daily Telegraph are reporting that United are refusing to give into Herrera’s wage demands. Apparently, the Red Devils do want Herrera to stay and they are offering him a nice hike to his weekly earnings, although the player is holding out for more.

Understandably, United aren’t willing to be held to ransom as they clearly look to stand firm and set a new precedent in regards to player contracts. That means either he or the club are going to have to bow down should they want to come to an agreement.

United need to do something. They’ve got too many average players on astronomical wages and it has to start right from the very top. This is a long, drawn-out process but it’s good to see that changes are beginning to be made; although it would be sad to a lose a player of Herrera’s calibre.
