Manchester United Football Club finished their season just 26 days ago, when the Red Devils lifted the Europa League trophy in Stockholm. Now though, one of their key figures in the form of Wayne Rooney has already returned to training – as he looks to prove Jose Mourinho wrong for not playing him regularly.
That’s according to the Evening Standard, who say that the 31-year-old is seriously considering a move away from Old Trafford – which has been his home for well over a decade.
I think it’s fair to say that Rooney struggled last season. His touch completely deserted him, as did that wand of a right-foot we know that he has. Any pace looks to have diminished, and he just didn’t look like much of a threat going forward.
However, you simply cannot fault the desire and determination of the man. He’s back in training trying to prove a point, he’s trying to tell the manager that he made the wrong decision and that deserves credit.
My only worry is that it is probably a little too late. The damage has been done and his hefty wage packet could be spent much better elsewhere in my opinion. I’m grateful for all he has done for this club and that will never change, but there is absolutely no room for sentiment in football. If I were the manager, I’d still be trying to move him on as soon as possible.
