Man United star could have ‘bad injury’, Jose Mourinho claims

You could say that Manchester United’s 0-0 draw away at Sevilla was a good result, but it certainly wasn’t an entertaining watch from a fans’ point of view.

Jose Mourinho’s men looked to shutout their Spanish opponents, while also not being too adventurous when going forward. The tie is finely balanced, but after the match, the gaffer had some harsh words for his medical team.

The self-proclaimed Special One slammed the coaching staff, as he believes midfielder Ander Herrera wasn’t fully fit when he took to the turf.

Now the boss believes the Basque-born 28-year-old has a ‘bad injury’ and it seems as though he’s laying the blame on United staff members.

“It didn’t look like he was fully fit,” said Mourinho, per the BBC.

“I think he has a bad injury. He had a small injury that stopped him for the last couple of matches, but the medical department gave him 100% ready for last Saturday [against Huddersfield in the FA Cup].”

“He looked fit [on Tuesday] and the way he was playing during his time on the pitch – he was pressing a lot, really high – you only do that when you feel good.

“Then it was a back-heel, and a back-heel creates a contraction in the muscular area where he had the biggest problem, and now we have proof that he was not 100% fit.”

I guess we’ll never know the situation. Perhaps Herrera was just unlucky, or maybe there is more to it. Honestly, he barely had a touch during the fifteen minutes that he was on the field, but it certainly looked like a hamstring twinge, rather than a recurrence of the thigh issue that kept him sidelined over the last few weeks.

To hear that he’ll probably be missing for quite some time is a big concern, however. United’s midfield options are already rather thin on the ground, particularly if Mourinho plans on playing a three. Hopefully, they’ll be some better news from the boss during his pre-match Chelsea press conference.
