Manchester United Football Club are competing in the Champions League this season, after a year off following poor league position from the season before. However, after winning the Europa League, Henrikh Mkhitaryan is in buoyant mood ahead of the game in Russia against CSKA Moscow.
The star attacker has made a stunning start to the season, providing assists aplenty and scoring his first goal of the campaign against Everton just over a week ago.
Now, following scoring the winner in the Europa League final against Ajax, Mkhitaryan is targeting challenging for the Champions League title. Of course, it isn’t going to be easy, but Mourinho’s team will give it absolutely everything they have.
“Winning the Europa League won us a place in the Champions League.” Mkhitaryan is quoted as saying by the Daily Star.
“That means we can look back on last season and feel satisfied with ourselves.
“I know it was painful to be sixth in the Premier League, but with that Europa League final that we won we created a new chapter.
“We have given ourselves the chance to show that. This season there is a challenge to be better in the Premier League.
“But the new challenge is to go as far as we can in the Champions League.
“Manchester United will always play for trophies and titles and that’s what we want to do this season.”
Mkhitaryan has been a brilliant addition for United. He offers that extra dimension in the final third, and after a slow start, he’s really firing on all cylinders at this point in time.
The Champions League is the most prestigious competition in the sport we love. We’ve been handed a relatively good group stage draw and we have to capitalise on that. We’ve made a great start against FC Basel, now, we have a tough task as we head to Russia. Three points here would send out a real statement of intent.
