Manchester United’s injury problems have been well documented of late, with Jose Mourinho being without several players for the long-term. One of those guys is Juan Mata, with some reports claiming the Spaniard is done for the season.
It was a huge blow when Mata was ruled out for so long, because his creativity is so essential to any success we have had recently. The attacking midfielder is the player that makes us tick, and I think it’s pretty much a given that when he doesn’t play, Manchester United aren’t as aesthetically pleasing to watch.
Now, though, the man himself has provided us fans with an important injury update via his weekly blog, and it definitely makes for positive reading. The 28-year-old has reaffirmed his desire to get back quickly and help his teammates in the final part of the season.
“So April will be over with that game. As you can imagine, this month has been a bit too long for me due to my injury… I had never been in a situation like this before (I’ve been very lucky), but the truth is I’m feeling much better now and I hope to be back with the team soon, to try to help in the last spell of the season. I hope so, because that’s all I want: being always available to help and to contribute as much as I can, both on and off the pitch. A million thanks for all your messages wishing me a speedy recovery, I’m getting closer! 😉” Juan Mata wrote in his weekly blog.
Whilst it is obviously brilliant that he is recovering quicker than expected, I’d much prefer Manchester United to ease him back into things rather than rushing him back. Groin injuries can be pretty serious, and if he comes back too soon it could do more harm than good to both him and the team.
Obviously, if he’s at 100% and available before the end of the season then that would be fantastic, purely because it gives Mourinho another option. The question is, who would you drop from the team to fit Mata back in? Because the likes of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard are playing brilliantly right now.
