Atletico Madrid has revived their interest in Manchester United’s Ander Herrera, with the Basque-born midfielder ready to quit Old Trafford when his current contract ends.
That’s what AS writes, translated by The Metro. The United fan favourite is out of contract next summer, and in just eight weeks, he’ll be free to talk to other clubs about the possibility of signing a pre-contract elsewhere – meaning he’d walk away for free.
We cannot forget that Herrera, 27, was named Manchester United’s Player of the Season last term. He was an integral part of the starting XI, but that hasn’t been the case this year following the arrival of Nemanja Matic.
It’s a tough situation for the player. I think it’s clear that he loves Manchester United, but perhaps a move back to Spain may be too good for him to turn down.
I think United must do whatever it takes to get him to put pen to paper on a new contract at the Theatre of Dreams, at least that way they can get some sort of transfer fee back for him. Letting him leave for nothing would be an absolute disaster.
