Man United star refuses to commit long-term future to Old Trafford

Manchester United’s top-four hopes are over. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer put in a valiant effort but in the end, the task-at-hand was just too great.

For the best of the best, playing in European football’s premiere competition is an absolute must. Don’t be surprised to see a mass exodus at Old Trafford this summer, particularly as we look so far away from the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool…

It seems as though the first player already to be considering his future at the club is Romelu Lukaku. When asked whether he’ll be at the Theatre of Dreams next summer, he gave a less-then-convincing response…

‘Me? I don’t know,’ said Lukaku per the Daily Mail. ‘I am not here to entertain rumours. I am still under contract.’

This is the typical answer from a footballer who isn’t fully happy but doesn’t want to annoy the fanbase he currently plays for. Would I be surprised to see Lukaku leave United in the summer? Absolutely not because this isn’t the first time he’s flirted with a move away.

On the flip side, would United miss him? I’m not so sure. He’s a great goalscorer but even those have come in patches this season. In terms of all-round game, Lukaku is extremely average. For a big man he’s terrible at holding the ball up and bringing others into play, and right now, it feels as though Marcus Rashford is the go-to striker.

In terms of potential transfer fee, I’d be surprised if United can get the £75million back that they paid to sign him. The Reds have been notoriously bad sellers recently and if that continues, Lukaku could well be sold off in a cut-price deal…
