Manchester United have made the perfect start to their Premier League campaign, with the Red Devils sealing two wins from their first two games this season. Jose Mourinho’s lads are in confident mood and that is certainly showing on the field.
Outside of the current squad, there are a few guys who have been injured recently. Obviously, it has been tough for them to watch their teammates flourish, and now one of those players is hoping to get his big opportunity.
Luke Shaw made his return for the U23s last night, and after the match, he spoke to the media. As you’d imagine, he was in a happy mood following taking to the field, and he sent a stern message to Jose Mourinho in the process.
‘I’m feeling really good and I only push on from here,’ a smiling Shaw told MUTV, as per The Metro.
‘I’m looking for the first-team spot now, I’m going to keep pushing, and when the manager needs me I’m going to be ready.’
‘Whenever that is, I’m really looking forward to it. I’d rather it was sooner rather than later, but I’m feeling good and whenever I’m called upon, I’m ready.’
‘I was very happy to get an hour tonight – it was very important for me and for Ashley to get the minutes after the rehab we’ve had.
‘It was a very positive 60 minutes – me and Ash both feel good. I feel very good and hopefully, I can push on now, keep myself fit and get stronger and stronger.’
He seems hungry, and that is something we haven’t seen of Shaw before. This is a guy who has the potential to become our first-choice left-back for the next decade. People forget that he’s still so young, and he has a huge part to play for this club going forward.
The fact that he is ready to push for his chance so early on in his recovery tells you just how badly he wants this. Hopefully, Mourinho will take note of that. Of course, it’s a long road back when you’ve been out for so long and had no pre-season – but his intentions are clear.
