Manchester United have needed a new centre-half since Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic hung up their boots. It seems as though Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is now making that position his top priority.
According to the BBC, United have made a huge £70million bid for Leicester City’s 26-year-old centre-back, Harry Maguire.
Apparently, Solskjaer is trying to sign an experienced defender, while Maguire also has the leadership qualities that the Baby Faced Assassin is looking for.
Furthermore, Maguire would ‘welcome the chance’ to step up and play at a higher level, although the BBC do add that the £70m bid is ‘short’ of Leicester’s valuation – so don’t be surprised if that offer is immediately turned down.
The England defender who is currently on holiday is also attracting interest from Manchester City. Although the player himself is concerned that Leicester could well price him out of a move away from the King Power this summer.
In that regard, Maguire has made his own bed as he recently only signed a five-year deal with Leicester, but if the right offer does come in, then Brendan Rodgers’ hand will be forced and he’ll have no choice but to cash in.
I like Maguire, I think he’s a top player who’d vastly improve United so I do hope this deal does go through – although expect this one to drag on for a fair while yet…
