Douglas Costa has been put up for sale by Juventus, with Manchester United apparently considering him as an alternative to Jadon Sancho…
The latest story in the brewing saga comes from Goal, who confirm that Juventus have put the 30-year-old Douglas Costa up for sale.
The reported United transfer target being added to the market has apparently led to the Reds ‘having their ears pricked’ by this latest news. As a proposed move for Sancho continues to stall, is now the time that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks in another direction?
However, Costa himself is not keen on a move away from Turin. The Brazilian wants to prove himself to the Serie A outfit – where he has spent the last three years of his career.
Goal add that Costa’s agents have tried to stir up interest from the Premier League, though United have been the only side credited with genuine interest in the winger.
Should United make their move for Costa?
I want to start by stating that Costa is an exciting player to watch. He’s quick, two-footed and has a great shot on him.
However, injury problems simply cannot be ignored. He played 29 times last term, and impressed when he was available. Though the unreliability of treatment table woes makes this a massive gamble for United.
Fans were expecting Sancho and Costa would be an underwhelming, risky signing. It’s also one that doesn’t really make sense. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has tried to make this squad a younger one. Costa is now the wrong side of 30.
At this stage, you get the impression United are just putting the feelers out and assessing their options which is absolutely fine. I would be genuinely surprised if the Reds firm up their ‘interest’ in Costa with an official bid, though.
With a few weeks left in the transfer window, United still have time, but signing a winger before that October 5th deadline is an absolute must.
