Manchester United are preparing to allow Scott McTominay to leave on loan this summer; on one condition.
Jose Mourinho will sanction the move, but only if the Red Devils acquire his preferred midfield transfer target this summer. That’s according to The Metro.
The 21-year-old has emerged as a first-team regular this season, making 23 appearances in all competitions. The self-proclaimed Special One has put trust aplenty in McTominay this term, which will have been a huge confidence-booster for the young man.
Apparently, The Metro state that United have received various loan offers for McTominay, with the club wary that the Scotland international won’t receive as much playing time if they do indeed sign a new midfielder.
Personally, I’m not really sure what to make of McTominay. He’s obviously a talented lad, that’s a given, but what’s his playing style? I’d hardly call him a defensive-midfielder, nor an out-an-out attacker like Paul Pogba. In all honesty, I don’t think he knows the answer to that question yet.
I don’t see a way in which he manages to play this amount of games next season, so for his overall development, a loan move seemingly makes the most sense at this point. I just hope that if the deal happens, he goes to a club who are willing to play him week-in-week-out, like Timothy Fosu-Mensah did at Crystal Palace.
