Even if David de Gea does leave Manchester United in the not too distant future, I feel as though the Red Devils will be left in good hands.
Dean Henderson has given me enough encouragement to prove that he’s ready to take over as United’s #1 when called upon. Now, in an exclusive from the Daily Mirror, it is being claimed that the 22-year-old will sign a new long-term deal this summer.
Henderson’s current contract expires in around twelve months time, but the Reds, understandably, want the shot-stopper to put pen to paper – before he heads on loan back to Sheffield United for another season.
First and foremost this tells us all that United believe De Gea will be at the club for at least another twelve months which is excellent news.
Secondly, it gives Henderson another full season to continue to hone his talents. This time, though, he’ll be playing Premier League football for the first time in his career and it’ll be intriguing to see how he gets on.
Personally I feel as if he’ll be absolutely fine at this level. Henderson will likely be tested a fair bit, mind, as no disrespect to them but you’d imagine Sheffield United will be relatively close to the bottom of the table.
All-in-all, this feels like the right move at this point and maybe in a year Henderson will have earned himself the United #1 jersey.
