Manchester United need to sign a new centre-half this summer, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seemingly fixated on adding a quality defender to the squad.
Harry Maguire’s name has constantly been appearing on the back pages, however, a new (but familiar) name has been thrown into the ring…
It’s that of Kalidou Koulibaly; the world-class Napoli centre-half who’d improve any side in world football. The story comes from Soccerlink, who state that United are to meet with the 28-year-old’s agent, Fali Ramadani, this week.
Apparently, the player is ‘interested’ in the ‘project’ Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is building at the moment, with Soccerlink also claiming that Koulibaly’s agent has already met with United once this summer.
It goes without saying that if Koulibaly is a genuinely obtainable option for United, the Reds should go all out and get their man. The Senegal centre-back is right up there amongst the best in the world in his position. Money-wise, if things aren’t too different with what Leicester City want for Maguire, I’d be opting for the Napoli man every single time.
I still have my doubts about this one, though. We cannot offer Champions League football at this time and the best players want to be playing in the best competitions. I also don’t see Napoli letting their man go easily, although they will have ample time to find a replacement as their transfer window doesn’t shut for a while yet.
