Manchester United must have a new centre-back atop the list of priorities this summer, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to overhaul this squad.
One player mentioned in a potential move to Old Trafford is Harry Maguire. The Sun have given us another update on that saga, as United are set to try and use a player involved in the deal as a sweetener.
Apparently, the Reds are to offer academy graduate Andreas Pereira as a makeweight in the move due to the fact that they don’t want to meet Leicester City’s £90million valuation of the 26-year-old.
United are aware that Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers is a big fan of Pereira – a player who he tried to sign during his time at Celtic. Although the article does state that United have ‘discussed’ a long-term contract for the Brazilian – whom the club wouldn’t want to lose permanently.
There’s also an option for a Pereira loan deal on the cards, although I’m not sure a season-long move for an up-and-coming midfielder will tempt them into parting with their prized defensive asset.
The Sun state that City are also interested in signing Maguire which tells you everything you need to know about his abilities. In this market, though, is the Englishman worth more than what Liverpool paid to sign Virgil van Dijk? I’m not convinced…
