Manchester United Football Club are set to offer fan favourite Juan Mata a new three-year deal at Old Trafford; with the Spaniard having just twelve months left on his current contract.
That’s according to The Metro, with their report adding that United were open to offers for the 30-year-old, but nothing suitable came in. Now, their plan is to tie Mata down to a new long-term deal so they don’t lose the former Chelsea attacking midfielder on a free transfer.
Mata was brilliant during United’s third tour match against AC Milan in the early hours of this morning, and that form could well see him earn a starting role for the Red Devils’ opening Premier League game against Leicester City on August 10th.
Ever since his arrival, the attacking midfielder has given his absolute all for the cause, both on and off the field. The fans absolutely idolise the little Spaniard, and no doubt the majority would love to see him extend his stay at the Theatre of Dreams.
We’re now two years into the Jose Mourinho era and me, like many, are somewhat surprised that Mata’s still around; considering the fact that the pair didn’t really see eye-to-eye during their time together at Chelsea.
