I don’t think it can be argued that Paul Pogba is the most talented player Manchester United have – on paper at least.
However, the mercurial Frenchman hasn’t put in the performances we know he can do with any regularity whatsoever. That has led to doubts about his future, while the player himself has admitted he fancies a ‘new challenge’.
What’s also clear is the fact that United want to keep him. The Daily Mail have given us another update on the Pogba situation which only further proves that fact. Apparently, the Reds are set to offer their 26-year-old star a new, mega-money contract.
United are ready to give Pogba a weekly salary worth around £500,000-a-week – bringing him in line with what Alexis Sanchez currently takes home.
Pogba has attracted interest from Juventus and Real Madrid this summer, with the latter apparently making a £90million offer – although they know it’ll take ‘considerably more’ for United to even think about selling their prized asset.
At this stage, the ball is in United’s court. Pogba has two years (with the option for a third) left on his deal so the club don’t have to sell the player if they don’t want to.
However, it seems as though they’re trying to completely end the exit rumours by offering Pogba more money. If the player is dead-set on leaving Old Trafford then there’s no way that putting a bigger deal on the table will change his mind, but it’s certainly going to be intriguing to see how this saga plays out.
