Bruno Fernandes is now likely to be a household name amongst Manchester United fans – particularly after a summer transfer window jam-packed with rumours surrounding the midfield maestro.
Well, after a few months away from the Fernandes talk, it seems as though those stories are about to rear their ugly head throughout the January transfer window.
Today, Goal state that United are to revive their interest in the 25-year-old, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer keen to add a creative midfielder to his squad during the January transfer window.
Fernandes was doing crazy things last season, scoring 32 goals in just 50 appearances last term. He’s started the 2019/20 campaign in similar fashion, hitting 13 goals already for Sporting Lisbon.
The one big stumbling block for United is that Fernandes has now signed a new deal with the Portuguese outfit, meaning he now has an £85m release clause. Whether or not the Red Devils are willing to pay that amount remains unclear.
Sporting now hold more leverage than they did in the summer, though, and it seems weird that when United had practically a free-run at the Portuguese midfielder they ignored him. Now they’re suddenly keen again? Honestly, you couldn’t make it up.
One thing is for certain, United need midfield help as soon as possible. Whether or not Fernandes is the answer remains to be seen, though he can’t be any worse than the current options available to Solskjaer…
