Manchester United Football Club recalled Joel Pereira back to Old Trafford from his loan spell with Vitoria Setubal, and now, it looks as though we know why.
According to the Daily Mail, the 22-year-old is set to head straight back out on loan but this time he’ll remain in England – heading to Reading.
It seems as though United weren’t happy with the amount of playing time that Pereira was receiving back in his homeland with Vitoria, and hopefully, if he moves to Reading, who are leading the chase for his signature, that will significantly change.
I’ve always maintained the same stance when talking about young goalkeepers at United. It’s going to be nigh-on impossible to replace David de Gea in between the sticks, while Sergio Romero is probably the best back-up in the country.
Then you have Lee Grant who was brought in this season, while Dean Henderson is another talented up-and-comer. Right now, a loan move in England seems like the best option. If Pereira plays well then perhaps he could be our back-up in the future, if not, it may well be time to move him on.
