Man United to step up interest in Timo Werner: report

Manchester United Football Club haven’t scored more than one goal since the Premier League’s opening day and striking reinforcements is an absolute necessity.

The name that has popped up most frequently is Mario Mandzukic, though today, a new player has been thrown into the ring.

According to the Daily Express, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to sign long-term Liverpool target and current RB Leipzig hitman Timo Werner.

Furthermore, United and the Baby Faced Assassin are set to step up their interest in the 23-year-old forward, though the Old Trafford outfit may have to wait until next summer as a January deal is ‘unlikely’.

Werner is now into his fourth season with Leipzig and is already in line for his best term yet, hitting 7 goals in 10 games thus far.

Liverpool’s interest in the German has been long-standing though a deal never looked like materialising. However, if United are to get themselves in amongst the mix, you’d imagine that they’d have to secure a top-four finish. At this point, that obviously looks unlikely.

I do like the mantra that Solskjaer is trying to stick to. The Norwegian is looking to add younger players for longevity rather than opting for the quick-fix. Werner could give you close to a decade if United could convince him to join as opposed to Mandzukic’s eighteen months. I know which I’d prefer…
