Manchester United Football Club have a well-documented interest in Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic, however, a deal looks up in the air as the Stamford Bridge club weren’t happy at the Red Devils hijacking their move for Romelu Lukaku. We’ve now been given a fresh update in the saga.
It comes from The Telegraph, and they say that Matic is now training alone, and has been since the Chelsea players returned to pre-season training. They also claim that the rest of the squad are convinced he’s leaving. Finally, they say that the midfield powerhouse wants a move to Old Trafford this summer.
Jose Mourinho, in my opinion, certainly wants to bring in a more defensive-minded midfielder during this window, and that is a move that makes perfect sense.
Matic, 28, has Premier League experience and has already lifted the trophy twice during his short-stay in England. For that reason alone, he’d be a great fit. This is a man who knows how this league works, and he’s played under Mourinho before so they know each other’s game and tactics inside out.
With that said, I still don’t see Chelsea selling him to us purely because what happened with Lukaku. I hope I’m wrong because he’d be the perfect fit, but I doubt it.
